abstract = {The present study investigates the relationship between organizational resources (financial, social, and technological capital) and dynamic capabilities development in crises periods. Through quantitative research, a theoretical framework that is based on resource‐based view and dynamic capabilities view is validated for the first time in the hospitality industry. In practice, it is explored whether the hospitality firms—based on their own resources—can develop the dynamic capability of organizational agility that enables them to cope with turbulent and unstable environments. The empirical research was conducted with the sample of 502 hospitality firms in Greece during the COVID‐19 era. The findings confirm that financial and technological capital have a positive influence on the development of agility‐related dynamic capabilities, and specifically market capitalizing agility and operational adjustment agility, for the hospitality industry during turbulent periods. Instead, social capital has a negative and no effect respectively on these two dynamic capabilities.},

abstract = {Dynamic capabilities theory (DCT) emerged as a leading framework in the process of value creation for firms. Its core notion complements the premise of the resource-based view of the firm and is considered an important theoretical and management framework in modern information systems research. However, despite DCT's significant contributions, its strength and core focus are essentially in its use for historical firm performance explanation. Furthermore, valuable contributions have been made by several researchers to extend the DCT to fit the constantly changing IT environments and other imperative drivers for competitive performance. However, no DCT extension has been developed which allows firms to integrally assess their current state of maturity to derive imperative steps for further performance enhancements. In light of empirical advancement, this article aims to develop a strategic alignment model for IT flexibility and dynamic capabilities and empirically validates proposed hypotheses using correlation and regression analyses on a large data sample of 322 international firms. The authors conjecture that the combined synergetic effect of the underlying dimensions of a firm's IT flexibility architecture and dynamic capabilities enables organizations to cope with changing environmental conditions and drive competitive firm performance. Findings of this study suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between firms' degree of strategic alignment—defined as the degree of balance between all dimensions—and competitive firm performance. Strategic alignment can, therefore, be seen as an important condition that significantly influences a firm's competitive advantage in constantly changing environments. The proposed framework helps firms assess and improve their maturity and alignment of IT flexibility and dynamic capabilities. This article concludes with a discussion, suggestions for future research and managerial implications are also discussed.},

abstract = {This paper investigates the uses of the popular social network site Facebook, and the influence of these uses on acceptance and satisfaction. A total of 171 Facebook users answered a questionnaire that allowed us to examine how the four uses of Facebook (social connection, social surfing, wasting time and using applications) shape the level of users’ acceptance and satisfaction from this social network. Our research indicated that, out of the four uses, ‘social connection’, ‘wasting time’ and ‘using applications’ have significant effect on Facebook acceptance. Moreover, ‘social surfing’ and ‘wasting time’ affect positively users’ satisfaction. The results of this study highlight the fact that social network applications, such as Facebook, owe their success in young ages in their ability to bring them in communication with people that are away. Nevertheless, young people’s satisfaction increase as they spend more and more time in them and get accustomed to such networks.},

abstract = {The increasing emphasis that organizations are placing on purchasing and supply chain management over the past decade, has set the spotlight on the potential of procurement systems. However, the majority of studies still examine IT adoption enablers despite the fact that procurement systems are perceived as a commodity in modern enterprises. Studies that examine the post-adoption conditions that facilitate performance gains in the supply chain management domains still remain scarce. In this paper we investigate the effect of business/IT-alignment within the procurement domain in order to determine if it affects procurement performance. Additionally, we examine the impact that supply chain management governance centralization has in attaining procurement alignment. In order to answer these questions, a sample of 172 European companies was analyzed by means of Partial Least Squares (PLS) modeling. Our results empirical support our hypotheses that procurement alignment leads to increased performance over time and in relation with competitors, with the effect of the former being greater than the latter. Additionally, we find that contrary to empirical evidence supporting the statement that a decentralized structure enables e-procurement adoption, governance centralization of supply chain management decisions fosters procurement alignment.},

abstract = {The scope of this paper is to examine the perceptions which induce the Greek customers to purchase over the Internet, testing the direct effect of experience and the moderating effect of satisfaction. A review of research conducted in the Greek online market demonstrates that satisfaction, self-efficacy, and trust keep a prominent role in the Greek customers’ shopping behavior. To increase understanding of this behavior, two parameters of the UTAUT model, performance expectancy and effort expectancy, are incorporated. The findings demonstrate that customers’ perceptions about all of the parameters do not remain constant, as the experience acquired from past purchases increases. Moreover, the relationship of experience with self-efficacy and intention to repurchase changes, as satisfaction gained from previous purchases increases. The implications of this study are interesting not only for the Greek but also for the Meditterranean researchers and e-retailers, since the Mediterranean ebusiness market shares several cultural similarities with the Greek market.},

abstract = {The plethora of actors, the complexity of relationships and the variety of information and financial flows affecting the mobile entertainment arena today, have created a series of challenging business opportunities for entrepreneurs and key market players. The evolving and quite promising mobile music market, however, is suffering from the luck of integrated theoretical frameworks critical for the business activity acceleration and for the corresponding mobile music services diffusion. In this paper, we advocate the application of a business model change methodology for the purpose of transforming the current business models of the traditional and online music industry to a new business model appropriate for the mobile music industry. To do so, we are based on the results of a qualitative research study, which involved in‐depth interviews with content providers, mobile operators and music consumers using semi‐structured questionnaires. To that end, the present study applies the available business model theoretical insights to the music industry and depicts the current business practice in terms of: the content delivery channels employed (i.e. traditional, Internet, mobile), the participating actors; and the relative flows. Key business modelling issues are discussed and direct managerial implications to potential players are also provided. Finally, straightforward directions for further research are discussed.},

abstract = {Research interest in the value derived from alliances has been expressed through investigation of multiple perspectives of the outcomes of alliances using terminologies such as performance, success, termination, effectiveness, strategic goal fulfillment, and achievement of partners’ objectives. The present chapter considers the antecedents to value creation and appropriation and the moderating role of governance configuration of the alliances in the antecedents-outcomes relationship. To do so, it adopts the property rights theory, which is considered to extend transaction cost economics and resource-based view. According to our proposed model, value creation of alliances depends on a number of contingency factors related to alliance’s history and orientation as well as partners’ relatedness. Value appropriation of alliances also depends upon partners’ relatedness, but it is only affected by other factors, such as firm’s bargaining power and absorptive capacity. Through the proposed model, we argue that the choice of appropriate governance configuration moderates (strengthens or weakens) the effect of the above contingency factors on value creation and appropriation. In addition, we support that value creation affects value appropriation, and vice versa.},

abstract = {By incorporating a strategic alignment perspective, we investigate how complementary capabilities, i.e., IT flexibility, a firm’s networking capability and absorptive capacity influence firms’ level of innovation. We do so, by empirically validating our main research question and associated research model using PLS-SEM, i.e., causal modeling on a sample of 322 international firms. Our research model draws upon foundational and empirical work and provides guidance on how strategic alignment can drive incremental and radical innovation capabilities. Outcomes of the analyses substantiate that all measurements and indicators are valid and reliable. Moreover, this study also uncovers a significant positive relationship between a firm’s degree of strategic alignment and incremental and radical innovation capabilities. Our study demonstrates the importance of strategic alignment between the three investigated organizational capabilities in the process of facilitating enhanced innovation capabilities. We contend that the inability of firms to innovate is, in part, due to the lack of strategic alignment, i.e., synergetic effect. As such, this work contributes to the current practical and theoretical knowledge base of both strategic alignment and firm innovation literature. This article concludes with a discussion and conclusion, outlines limitations of the current study and present some direction for future research},

abstract = {Considering the advances of wireless, mobile and positioning technologies and the high requirement of the mobile marketing world for reaching as many customers as possible in a personalized way, this paper presents a wireless technology solution for sending targeted advertising or information messages on mobile devices. The research and development work presented in this paper has been conducted as part of a European-funded project named mEXPRESS (mobile in-EXhibition PRovision of Electronic Support Services) which aims at developing a Mobile Exhibition Guide providing location based services. In this context, we have built a Targeted Messenger subsystem enabling on-site promotion of exhibits via targeted spots as well as targeted announcements to user groups based on their profile, preferences and location in exhibition halls. This paper discusses the Targeted Messenger component’s architecture and design specification, with the aid of UML tools, as well as its implementation, based on J2EE multitier implementation platform.},

abstract = {Exhibition shows accumulate vast quantities of information and their success relies in the quantity and quality of interaction of the involved parties: exhibitors, visitors and organizers. The more effective the interaction between end parties, the more successful the exhibition. The application of advanced ICT applications in the exhibition industry has always been a major opportunity for leveraging the value proposition of exhibition-related services. More specifically, as the telecommunication technology evolves, unexpected possibilities arise for such information and communication rich environments and quite interesting applications, from both the technology and the business side, appear. This case study concerns extended discussion about an innovative wireless system, named as Wireless Exhibition Guide. The wireless system, which has been the primary research and development result of a European project funded under the IST programme, employs a set of integrated software components, mobile terminals, wireless networks and indoor location positioning technologies to introduce advanced information, communication and navigation services for a typical European exhibition environment. The discussion concerns several perspectives on the development and exploitation of the Wireless Exhibition Guide, such as applied technology (sub-systems and infrastructure), provided services, value chain analysis, candidate business models, and regulatory framework with which it complies.},

As a result, the debates around established e-business models, as well as the way to achieve business model innovation, are ever increasing. However, while many researchers and practitioners are contemplating business models, there is a distinct lack of appropriate theoretical tools in the literature to structure and codify the extant knowledge in the area. abstract = {Technology is increasingly becoming a major driver of business change. However, it is well documented that businesses cannot readily exploit the advantages provided by technological innovations unless these are combined with some sort of organizational restructuring. More often than not, business model evolution is necessary in order to leverage investments in new technologies. However, the process of how a business model might evolve is rather underresearched and entails a relatively high risk for many organizations. This paper draws on prior theoretical works and a real-life case study on the introduction of mobile services in the exhibition industry to formulate a novel methodology, based on scenario development, for guiding the process of business model evolution in inter-organizational settings. The methodology allows for extending, rather than invalidating, existing business models in order to minimize the risk involved in the transition process, to keep the new model in alignment with the principles underlying its prior counterpart, and to take into account the business interests of all stakeholders involved.},

abstract = {The benefits of living in a fast changing information society become evident if effective e-business practices are implemented, offering companies exposure and access to global markets and consumer access to customized, high quality services. Such practices are facilitated by innovative and effective e-business models. However, the business literature defines business models from different viewpoints, each focusing on different components. This leads to a fragmented and confusing picture regarding the shape and role of e-business models and the factors that distinguish successful business models. This paper explains why a more holistic approach to the study of e-business models is called for and proposes such an approach enabled by the examination of five thematic areas in the development and adoption of a business model: technical, individual, organizational, industrial, societal. A case study is examined in order to prove the appropriateness and importance of the proposed approach in the context of mobile business.},

Contextual Inquiry is an emerging practice used for investigating behavioural requirements of users in their work environment. The advantage of Contextual Design over other requirements elicitation methodologies, such as Requirements Engineering and User Task Analysis, is the focus on observation and in-work interviews for extracting requirements and designing customer-centred systems. Based on that, we have applied and adapted this methodology to the special case of gathering user requirements for a mobile exhibition system. The},

abstract = {This research is concerned with the examination of the mechanism through which decisions on the governance mode of strategic technology alliances are made at the firm level. Strategic alliances constitute a primary implementation means of corporate strategies that aim at innovation development and exploitation, which is considered of high strategic importance for firms in technology-based industries. A special feature of technology-based industries is the rapid rate and the difficulty of forecasting change. Strategic decision making in such environments should assure flexibility and opportunities for future value creation on the one hand, and optimization of resource allocation and cost minimization on the other.More particularly, this research addresses the strategic decision-makers’ dilemma of whether to internalize the transactions with their strategic partners or not, or, in other words, whether to pursue quasi-hierarchy or quasi-market alliances. This dilemma has already been addressed by a number of traditional theoretical perspectives, such as Transaction Cost Economics, the Resource-based, the Dynamic Capabilities, and the Knowledge-based View of the Firm, as well as the Theory of Real Options. We argue in favor of integrating a set of antecedent factors and propositions, sourced from the aforementioned theoretical perspectives, with the ultimate purpose of developing an integrative governance model. This integration is pursued under the concern of investigating the value, along with the resource and the cost, aspects of alliances. The integrative governance model is empirically tested through a survey involving strategic alliances in the wireless business environment. The quantitative data collected are analyzed with the aid of a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique, namely Partial Least Squares (PLS). Moreover, an extreme cases analysis approach, involving qualitative data on two real-world alliances, is applied to confirm and substantiate the quantitative results. The research results provide support for the integration of complementary theoretical perspectives over alliance governance and set the groundwork for the development of a decision-aiding tool helping strategic managers to make up their mind on the alliance governance mode that best aligns with their firm’s corporate strategy.},
